“If the tears that we shed five years ago were tears of sorrow, then the tears we shed today are tears of joy and bliss.”

In the 2011 MAMA ceremony that took place in Singapore on the 29th of November, Super Junior took home three awards and the members were moved to tears. Super Junior was present at the post ceremony press conference and during the interview they said “The tears that we shed today are a symbol of gratitude and they are tears of happiness that represent our determination to strive to do even better in the future.”

Super Junior has received the Album of the Year award, the Best Male Group award and the Singapore’s Choice award in the 2011 MAMA.

Leader Leeteuk said “5 years ago when we received the New Artiste Award, we shed tears of sorrow. Members have all gone through long periods of training and were very uncertain about the chances of debuting, therefore the award that we received back then held a different meaning. This year, many things had happened for Super Junior, including some unhappy incidents, but this made us stronger and we became more united than before. Hence based on this, we felt that the tears we shed today were tears of happiness.”

Choi Siwon made a comment after witnessing the support from Super Junior’s fans from various countries “Our fans are the best and they are the most persistent ones, therefore we too have continuously strived very hard to be the best.”

K-POP’s representative, Super Junior gave a sincere opinion regarding the future of the Hallyu wave and this attracted much attention.

SJ’s Leeteuk expressed “The Hallyu wave has expanded across many countries, in Europe, Japan and various places outside Korea, and with this the number of K-pop performances and concerts has also increased tremendously. However, the ticket prices for these events are sometimes exorbitant. If the ticket prices can be made more affordable, it will be in favour of the K-POP fans. Compared to the short term monetary gains, it will be good if we can place the emphasis on the long term benefits such as the genuine nature and quality of the K-POP performances and songs.”

Stirring with elation at their big haul of three awards (Album of the Year - Mr Simple, Best Male Group and Singapore's Choice for Most Favourite Korean Artist) at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, the band members of Super Junior were more than delighted to field questions from the press at the post-awards press conference held at Marina Bay Sands last night.

When the MC stated that it is time for the last question, leader Lee Teuk spoke up and said, "We have a lot of time still. Let's continue." His fellow member, Eunhyuk, also told reporters "if you have any more questions, please ask me on Twitter" when it was time for them to leave the room.

With three new trophies going into their expanding collection of awards, the boys said that they plan to "display it in their company" and joked, "If it is real gold, we will break it apart. (Laughs)"

Speaking of the tears they shed on stage when they received the Album of the Year award, and when they first received the Best New Artiste award five years ago, they said that they cried then because they had thought of the hardships they went through before debut.

"It is different this time, because these are tears of happiness. We are happy with what we have accomplished thus far," quipped Lee Teuk.

Sung Min added, "I almost cried when Lee Teuk gave the acceptance speech because I feel thankful for having these members with me. They are always giving support to one another; this is definitely tears of happiness.

Dubbed as the biggest awards ceremony to take place in Singapore this year, the Mnet Asian Music Awards 2011 (MAMA 2011) ended with a bang after Super Junior bagged the coveted Album of the Year award for their fifth album, Mr. Simple.

Over the four-hour long live show, 2NE1, Girls' Generation, and solo artiste Baek Ji Young each swept two awards home with Super Junior emerging as the biggest winner of the night, bagging three awards for Album of the Year - Mr Simple, Best Male Group and Singapore's Choice for Most Favourite Korean Artist.

During the group's thank you speech onstage for Album of the Year, which is also deemed as the 'biggest award' of MAMA 2011, leader Lee Teuk gave a heartfelt speech and triggered a wave of emotions amongst the members.

The leader talked about spending "a beautiful time in his 20s" with Singapore fans and expressed their sincere thanks towards all the support that fans have given the group during their ups and downs, especially when "no one knew of us" and "acknowledged" them during their early days.

He also gave a shoutout to members who were not able to attend 2011 MAMA due to other reasons and Shindong, Yesung and Kyuhyun were seen trying to fight back the tears

The 28-year-old added, "Thank you for everything. This might be our last awards ceremony before we start our army enlistment. This is an unforgettable award ceremony. We will continue to work hard in future. Thank you everyone!"

Super Junior, 2NE1, and HyunA have been making headlines all year with their YouTube view counts. On November 22nd, these three teams received awards at the ’2011 YouTube Kpop Awards’ at Google Korea in Seoul.

HyunA stated, “I was surprised at the large amount of YouTube viewcounts. I saw a lot of people upload videos with my song, and there were many who were better than me; I gained strength [from seeing all the videos].”

2NE1, who had three videos in the Top 10, commented, “We will continue to upload a lot of cool videos in the future. Please show them lots of love. We put a lot of effort into showing you a lot of things in ‘I Am The Best’ music video, so I think that is probably why a lot of people watched the video.”

Super Junior’s Leeteuk stated, “This award is especially more valuable because fans all over the world were the ones who made this award possible. We will continue to spread the Korea’s culture throughout the world… I also clicked on our music video 10 times. Whenever we’d go perform overseas, the clip would be uploaded onto YouTube right away. Seeing this, I felt how strong media’s power had become.”

Super Junior received 1st place with 26.9 million views for “Mr. Simple”, followed by 2NE1 with 22 million views for ‘I Am The Best’, while 3rd place went to Hyuna with 21.6 million views for “Bubble Pop”.
